However, the condition of forests is impacted by the rising demand for some key commodities where nearly 10 million hectares of woods are to be lost annually. There are many food items and other consumer goods that contain forest-related commodities like soy and palm oil (and its derivatives), as well as their derivatives, changing their supply chains to be more sustainable has the potential to greatly reduce deforestation and the related climate impact while supplying communities with sustainable livelihoods.
