New Delhi, PTI. This year 28 startup companies in India have developed into unicorns. In a statement, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, "The Indian economy has seen 28 unicorns or startups worth more than USD 1 billion. This is the result of the steps taken by the government towards economic reforms." The Finance Minister made this statement while addressing a program on Wednesday.
Let us tell you that unicorn companies are those companies whose value is more than 100 million dollars.
Addressing a virtual conference organized by the Indian Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (IVCA), Nirmala Sitharaman said, "The Indian economy has witnessed phenomenal growth in the form of startups in the last two decades."
IVCA, in a statement quoting the Finance Minister, said, "The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has recognized more than 56,630 startups in districts across India."
